City warns of heavy thermal load - tropical nights expected
Darmstadt is facing an intensive heat wave with temperatures of up to 37 degrees Celsius and several tropical nights in a row. The city administration warns of a strong thermal load and gives behavioral tips - also with the help of digital aids.
Heat Hot spots and cool places at a glance
"With the city-wide, high-resolution live heat cards, citizens can see exactly where it is particularly hot in Darmstadt-and where they find cooling," explains climate protection department Michael Kolmer. The maps are available on the city's website at
www.darmstadt.de/leben/umwelt/klimaschutz-und-klima adaptation.
The interactive cards show:
- Current temperatures in different districts
- Temperature curves of the last hours
- Predictions for the coming days for the hour
As a result, so -called "cooling islands" such as parks, green areas, water areas and natural gardens can be visited in a targeted manner in order to escape the heat load. At the same time, the cards also identify heavily overheated areas ("heat hot spots") in real time.
Targeted “cool places”
In addition, the so-called "cool local cards" are available, which mark the other hand, water features, water features, shady parks, outdoor pools and filling stations in the urban area. This overview supports citizens to move through Darmstadt safely and as heated as possible.
Tips for behavior in heat
Recommendations for hot days, especially for endangered groups of people, have compiled the city on its website at
https://klima.darmstadt.de/klimatipps . There are information on the right drinking, physical stress and cooling the living rooms.
