Information events on June 30th for the city center and on July 2nd for Eberstadt
The City of Darmstadt, through its Office for Climate Protection and Climate Adaptation and its Office for Mobility and Civil Engineering, is hosting two information events on heavy rainfall preparedness . The occasion is the presentation of newly developed heavy rainfall hazard maps for Darmstadt's city center and the Eberstadt district.
The first event will take place on Monday, June 30, 2025 , at the Justus Liebig House and will cover the Darmstadt districts of North, West, East, City Center, and Bessungen . The second event will follow on Wednesday, July 2 , at the House of Diversity in Eberstadt (Kirnbergerstraße 12) . Both events begin at 6:00 p.m. , with doors opening at 5:30 p.m.
Exchange and specialist information on heavy rain preparedness
After a brief introduction to the topic, participants will have the opportunity to examine local maps, contribute their own suggestions, and exchange ideas at three themed tables on key aspects of heavy rainfall preparedness. The themed tables offer insights into:
- Private pension provision
- Municipal measures in line with the sponge city concept
- Climate adaptation strategies
“Climate adaptation measures offer far more than just protection against flooding,” emphasizes climate protection officer Michael Kolmer . “They promote biodiversity, improve the microclimate in residential areas, and further reduce costs for citizens through savings on stormwater fees.”
The heavy rainfall hazard maps are an important component of Darmstadt's climate adaptation strategy and are intended to facilitate risk assessment in particularly affected areas.
