Traffic patterns will be altered and the weekly market will be relocated during the folk festival
Due to the Darmstadt Heinerfest, extensive road closures will be in effect in Darmstadt's city center from Thursday, July 2nd, at 9:00 AM until Tuesday, July 7th, 2026, at 6:00 AM. The City of Darmstadt requests that all road users take note of the changed traffic patterns and avoid the city center area if possible.
Several streets around the festival grounds are closed
During the Heinerfest, the following streets will be completely closed to public traffic:
- Landgraf-Georg-Straße between Schlossgraben and Pützerstraße
- Holzstraße (with the exception of the access road to Würthweg and the parking garage)
- Castle moat
- Alexanderstraße from Magdalenenstraße in a westerly direction (except for access to the darmstadtium parking garage and the university institutes)
- Merckstraße from Erbacher Straße in a southerly direction
- Lindenhofstraße
Furthermore, starting on June 21st, Mercksplatz East and Mercksplatz West will be closed until the dismantling work is completed.
Changes for delivery traffic and taxis
To better distribute delivery traffic, the existing through-traffic ban in Fiedlerweg will be temporarily lifted.
In addition, the city is setting up a taxi rank on demand along the east side of Teichhausstraße.
Deliveries to businesses located on the festival grounds during closure times are generally made via Holzstraße on the city ring road, unless the area is secured by concrete bollards. For the market square area, the exit is via Schlossgraben and Zeughausstraße.
The usual delivery hours for the pedestrian zone, from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. daily, will continue to apply to Obere Rheinstraße and Luisenplatz. This also applies on Sunday, July 5th.
The weekly market is temporarily relocating
During the Heinerfest, the Darmstadt weekly market takes place in the square behind the city church as well as in the open spaces of the pedestrian zone and Kirchstraße between the city church and the old town hall.
Market vendors can access the market via Kirchstraße in a southerly direction.
