Mayor Benz announces temporary relocation and review of permanent solutions
Following the canceled opening of the drug assistance facility Scentral at Bismarckstraße 3 on September 10, Mayor Hanno Benz presented the next steps to alleviate the situation in Herrngarten.
Temporary relocation starting this week
In coordination with municipal authorities, work is currently underway to prepare a new interim area. This includes trimming bushes and trees, as well as mowing. This work is scheduled to be completed by the end of this week or the beginning of next week, so the tents can likely be moved on September 8 or 9.
During the transitional phase, Scentral will deploy more street workers in consultation with the city. "The relocation of the tent locations is a temporary measure until the outdoor areas are completed," Benz emphasizes.
Permanent solutions in preparation
At the same time, the city is preparing long-term plans for dealing with the open drug scene in Herrngarten. Mayor Benz has asked the Association for Work and Educational Assistance Frankfurt (vae) , an experienced provider of addiction support services, to assess the situation. Discussions with Mayor and Social Affairs Director Barbara Akdeniz are scheduled for the end of September.
Based on these assessments, the Safety and Prevention Working Group discuss possible permanent steps. The goal is to implement concrete measures after the completion of the Scentral's outdoor facilities in November. This includes developing a concept for a consumption room . The City Council will ultimately decide on its establishment.
