Mayor Benz announces temporary relocation and examination of permanent solutions
Following the cancelled opening of the drug support facility Scentral at Bismarckstrasse 3 on September 10, Mayor Hanno Benz presented the next steps to alleviate the situation in Herrngarten.
Temporary relocation starting this week
In coordination with the city authorities, work is currently underway to prepare a new temporary site. This includes pruning bushes and trees, as well as mowing. This work should be completed by the end of this week or the beginning of next week, so that the tents can likely be moved on September 8th or 9th.
During the transition phase, Scentral will increase its use of street workers in consultation with the city. "The relocation of the tent sites is a temporary measure until the outdoor areas are completed," Benz emphasizes.
Permanent solutions are in preparation
In parallel, the city is preparing long-term strategies for dealing with the open drug scene in Herrngarten. To this end, Mayor Benz has asked the Frankfurt Association for Work and Educational Assistance (vae) , an experienced provider of addiction support services, to assess the situation. Discussions with Deputy Mayor and Head of Social Services Barbara Akdeniz are scheduled for the end of September.
Based on these assessments, the Security and Prevention Working Group discuss possible long-term measures. The goal is to implement concrete measures after the completion of the Scentral's outdoor facilities in November. This includes developing a concept for a supervised consumption room . The city council will ultimately decide on its establishment.
