The “Heavy Duty Charging” funding initiative starts in November – applications possible until October 15th
Wiesbaden – The Hessian Ministry for Economic Affairs, Energy, Transport, Housing and Rural Areas (HMWVW) is promoting the expansion of charging infrastructure for heavy-duty, all-electric commercial vehicles as part of the state initiative "Strom bewegt" (Electricity Moves). With the new "Heavy Duty Charging" funding initiative, companies, municipalities, and other institutions in Hesse can apply for subsidies for charging points for trucks, buses, special-purpose vehicles, and other heavy commercial vehicles.
Funding for trucks, buses and special vehicles
Funding is provided for charging infrastructure projects for vehicles of classes N3 and M3 as well as for heavy special vehicles, including:
- electric trucks
- electric buses in public transport as well as coaches
- heavy electric commercial vehicles in municipalities and companies
- electric agricultural, forestry and construction vehicles
- Heavy electric vehicles for fire brigades, rescue services and disaster relief
The funding covers both stationary and mobile charging points – regardless of whether they are publicly or privately accessible.
Funding conditions and deadlines
Eligible applicants are legal entities under public and private law with their registered office or place of business in Hesse. The maximum funding amount is €300,000 per project. The funding rate ranges from 20 to 40 percent, depending on the company size.
- Funding period: November 1, 2025 to October 31, 2027
- Application deadline: October 15, 2025
- Projects completed by February 2026 will be given priority
Transport and Energy Minister Kaweh Mansoori emphasized: “Electromobility is a key component in making transport in Hesse future-proof and sustainable – including in the heavy goods sector. The technology is only suitable for everyday use if buses, trucks and emergency vehicles can be charged quickly and reliably. This is precisely where our funding comes in.”
