Hofgut Kranichstein shows itself in top form at the start
With perfect weather, attentive spectators, and highly motivated riders, the Hessian Championships kicked off today at the Kranichstein estate in Darmstadt. It was already evident on the first day of the tournament: this long-established event has a lot to offer not only in terms of sport, but also a great atmosphere.
From morning until late afternoon, riders competed in various arenas, jumping, and battling for scores, clear rounds, and the first crucial points on the road to the title. The level of competition was immediately apparent, especially in the show jumping course: technically demanding lines, tight turns, and plenty of rhythm. Several favorites delivered flawless performances, remaining clear with ease. In dressage, composure, precision, and elegant forms dominated – it quickly became clear who truly formed a well-coordinated team with their horse.
The atmosphere? Relaxed yet focused.
The expansive grounds offered precisely the mix that defines a tournament of this caliber: friendly and welcoming, yet with the necessary competitive seriousness. Many spectators stayed longer than planned, enjoying coffee and cake under the old trees – and applauding not only established names but also young talents. Initial conversations on the sidelines revealed that expectations for the coming days are high. And the schedule promises a great deal.
A verdict on the opening day? A complete success.
Organization, weather, sport – everything was perfect today. It was a start that whets the appetite for more. In the coming days, the focus will be on the decisions in the youth and senior classes, the S-level tests are coming up, and the dressage will also become significantly more demanding. Anyone with title aspirations had to deliver today – and some did so impressively.
