Films about democracy, depression and biodiversity
Darmstadt – The Hessian Documentary Film Days / LETsDOK will focus on questions of society and nature from September 22nd to 26th, 2025 in Darmstadt. The event series is organized by AG DOK Hessen in cooperation with the Film and Cinema Office Hessen and is supported by Hessen Film and Media and the Frankfurt Rhine-Main Cultural Fund.
The series of events in Darmstadt kicks off on Monday, September 22nd, at 6 pm with the Schader Foundation's screening of the film "The German People," which deals with the aftermath of the Hanau attack of February 2020. Following the screening, director Marcin Wierzchowski, Darmstadt's former mayor Jochen Partsch, and Dr. Stella Lorenz from the Schader Foundation will discuss the question: "Who belongs to Germany – and who doesn't?"
On Thursday, September 25th, the rex cinema "Ride Don't Hide" at 8 pm . The film follows an extraordinary 120,000-kilometer motorcycle journey through diverse cultures and landscapes worldwide, focusing on the theme of depression. Director Dieter Schneider will be present for a Q&A session with the audience.
A special experience awaits visitors at Hofgut Oberfeld : The open-air bicycle cinema will screen the film "A Sky Full of Bees" . The audience will generate the electricity for the projection themselves. The film portrays people who are passionately dedicated to bees and shows how even young people can playfully promote biodiversity. In case of bad weather, the screening will take place under cover.
The Hessian Documentary Film Days program comprises a total of 23 events at eleven venues. They are Hesse's contribution to the nationwide LETsDOK .
