Films about democracy, depression and biodiversity
Darmstadt – The Hessian Documentary Film Days / LETsDOK will focus on questions of society and nature in Darmstadt from September 22 to 26, 2025. The event series is organized by AG DOK Hessen in cooperation with the Film and Cinema Office Hessen and supported by Hessen Film and Media and the Frankfurt RheinMain Cultural Fund.
Schader Foundation will kick off the event in Darmstadt on Monday, September 22, at 6 p.m. with the screening of the film "The German People," about the consequences of the Hanau attack in February 2020. Following this, director Marcin Wierzchowski, Darmstadt's former mayor Jochen Partsch, and Dr. Stella Lorenz of the Schader Foundation will discuss the question: "Who belongs to Germany—and who doesn't?"
On Thursday, September 25, the rex cinema "Ride Don't Hide" at 8 p.m. The film follows an extraordinary 120,000-kilometer motorcycle journey through cultures and landscapes around the world. It focuses on the topic of depression. Director Dieter Schneider will be present for a discussion.
Hofgut Oberfeld offers a special experience on Friday, September 26th "A Sky Full of Bees" will be shown at the open-air bicycle cinema starting at 8 p.m. The audience generates the electricity for the projection. The film portrays people passionate about bees and shows how young people can also promote biodiversity through play. In case of inclement weather, the screening will take place indoors.
The Hessian Documentary Film Days program includes a total of 23 events at eleven venues. They are Hesse's contribution to the nationwide LETsDOK .
