Extended opening hours on weekends from April 2025
The Hessian State Museum in Darmstadt will adjust its admission prices for the permanent exhibition for the first time in eleven years, effective April 1, 2025. At the same time, opening hours on weekends and public holidays will be extended to give visitors more time to enjoy their museum visit.
Moderate price adjustment after more than a decade
As the Hessian State Museum Darmstadt announces, admission prices for the permanent exhibition for the first time since the reopening in 2014.
- Single ticket: 8 euros (previously 6 euros)
- Reduced price: 5 euros (previously 4 euros)
increased costs for energy, personnel and building maintenance as reasons for the adjustment .
Museum director Dr. Martin Faass explains:
“In the last two years, we have been able to increase visitor numbers by 30 percent , reaching almost 100,000 visitors In order to continue offering an attractive program, we too must respond to the increased costs. Nevertheless, admission remains affordable in comparison to other national and international museums.”
Free entry for children and family offers
- Entry remains free for visitors up to 18 years of age .
- The museum continues to participate in the Hessen Family App . Families receive free admission to the permanent exhibition and a 10% discount on holiday programs for children .
- In the future, around 50 percent of visitors continue to be granted free admission, for example through discount entitlements and special regulations .
Extended opening hours on weekends
From April 1st, 2025, extended opening hours will apply on weekends and public holidays .
- New opening hours on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays: 11 am to 6 pm (previously 11 am to 5 pm)
With this change, the museum is responding to a request from the public , who particularly like to use these days for a visit.
