Support associations and the city are calling for support for the Carlo-Mierendorff and Friedrich-Ebert schools
Under the patronage of Mayor Geza Krebs-Wetzl, the city of Griesheim, the school support associations, and the principals of the Carlo-Mierendorff School and the Friedrich-Ebert School have launched a joint fundraising appeal. The goal is to continue the successful homework support programs at both elementary schools beyond the current semester.
The program is aimed at primary school children who lack access to institutional childcare services and have increased language or social support needs. A low-threshold learning format has been established through close collaboration between schools, the city, and parent-teacher associations: small groups, reliable mentors, and regular support – directly at the schools.
Funding secured – but only for the first half of the year
Originally, the Darmstadt-Dieburg district provided funding for several years. After this support ceased, the city and the supporting associations, together with a transitional solution, ensured the continuation of the program. Thanks to a successful grant application to the Darmstadt-Dieburg district's social foundation, €4,000 per school is available for the first semester of the 2025/2026 school year. Further commitments – for example, from the Schiefertafel Foundation – supplement the funding.
Mayor calls for support
“This commitment to educational equity and participation deserves our full support,” said Mayor Geza Krebs-Wetzl. “I sincerely thank everyone involved and call on the citizens of Griesheim to take responsibility together.”
The youth services department of the city of Griesheim is the sponsoring organization of the program and provides the teaching staff through contractually regulated volunteer expense allowances. Donations are used exclusively to finance these paid staff members.

The support associations of the two schools coordinate the donation process and issue donation receipts upon request. Donations are earmarked for the "Homework Help CMS/FES" project.
