Rally to Idahobita* with OB Hanno Benz and Association Various
On Saturday, May 17, 2025 , the science city of Darmstadt and the Vielbunt e. V. on the rally on the occasion of the international day against homo-, bi-, inter-, trans- and queer hostility (Idahobita) *. The event begins at 12:00 at the memorial "The dark side of the rainbow" at the Herrngarten (in front of the Welcome Hotel).
Mayor Benz: "Stand against hatred and exclusion"
Under this year's motto "The Power of Communities" , the power of solidarity is to be emphasized. Mayor Hanno Benz will speak a greeting. He explains:
"Thought that is directed against the rights of the LSBTIQ community also questions our free-democratic basic order. It is therefore important that we, as a urban society, support the queer community together with a broad alliance."
Rainbow flag as a sign of visibility
The rainbow flag is hoisted in front of the Welcome Hotel during the rally - a strong symbol against discrimination and for diversity. In addition, the rainbow flag will blow on Luisenplatz from May 17th to 23rd .
The city of Darmstadt and Vielbunt e. V. has been actively involved in exclusion and for the visibility of queer people for years.
Background: Why May 17th?
On May 17, 1990, World Health Organization stroked homosexuality from the catalog of mental illnesses. Since then, this date is considered an idahobit , day against queer hostility and the recognition of sexual and gender diversity.
