Rally for IDAHOBITA* on May 17th in the Herrngarten
Darmstadt and Vielbunt eV invite you to a rally against homophobia, biphobia, interphobia, transphobia and queerphobia on Sunday, May 17, 2026.
Rally at the memorial in the Herrngarten
The event begins at 1 p.m. at the memorial "The Dark Side of the Rainbow" in the Herrngarten park in front of the Welcome Hotel Darmstadt City Center.
The occasion is the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia, Transphobia and Queerphobia (IDAHOBITA*).
Mayor Hanno Benz will give a welcoming address.
Motto “At the heart of democracy”
This year's motto is "At the heart of democracy".
Benz emphasized beforehand that Darmstadt stands for cohesion, respect and a determined commitment against discrimination and anti-democratic tendencies.
Rainbow flag on Luisenplatz
As a visible sign of diversity and openness, the rainbow flag will once again be raised on Luisenplatz from May 17th to 21st.
The science city of Darmstadt and Vielbunt have been working together for years to advocate for the rights of queer people.
Background to the day of action
The International Day of Action commemorates the fact that the World Health Organization removed homosexuality from its list of mental illnesses on May 17, 1990.
Since then, IDAHOBIT* has been celebrated worldwide.
