Fifth incident in 2025 – city asks residents for information
Within just one week, illegal dumping has occurred for the fifth time this year in the Griesheim municipal forest – again in the form of construction debris, bulky waste, hazardous waste, and even asbestos cement sheets. The latest incident took place almost at the same location as a previous one. The city of Griesheim has responded strongly and is appealing to the public for assistance.
Particularly serious: In two incidents in June, a total of over three tons of construction debris were dumped in nature. This illegal dumping not only represents a massive environmental hazard, but also causes considerable extra work for the city's cleaning services and high costs.

Employees of the municipal works department had to be dispatched again with a truck, wheel loader, and two people to remove the rubbish and dispose of it properly. The disposal costs alone amounted to around 300 euros. Although the county's waste management association covers the costs, this is financed through waste collection fees – and thus by the general public.

The city of Griesheim points out that illegal dumping of waste constitutes an administrative offense and can be punished with a fine. However, the city relies on information from the public to prosecute such environmental offenses.
Information regarding suspicious activity – especially vehicles on forest roads or unusual behavior near wooded areas – can be reported to the public order office.
