EAD provides information on proper disposal and existing waste prevention programs.
According to the municipal services department (EAD), illegal waste dumping in Darmstadt continues to rise. In 2024, 1,385 cases were registered (2023: 1,350). The EAD anticipates another increase of around ten percent for 2025. The resulting additional costs amount to a six-figure sum annually.
Household waste is frequently left in bags next to containers or public waste bins. The illegal dumping of mattresses, construction debris, or old electrical appliances is also on the rise – especially at recycling containers for glass and paper, in green spaces, and at the edges of fields and forests.
To combat this, the science city of Darmstadt relies on a combination of service, monitoring, and prevention. This includes regular emptying of public containers and container sites, free bulky waste collection, operation of the recycling center, inspections by the municipal police, and comprehensive waste management advice in educational institutions and neighborhoods.
