A celebratory start to a new term of office with around 500 guests
Around 500 guests from politics, administration, associations, and the general public gathered at the Weiterstadt Civic Center on Thursday evening (December 18th) celebrate the inauguration of the new mayor, Niklas Gehnich 6:30 p.m. and was entirely dedicated to the theme of new beginnings .
The official inauguration and swearing-in ceremony was conducted by First City Councillor Dr. Alexander Koch and City Council Chairman Manfred Dittrich . The formal part of the event included the swearing-in , the presentation of the certificate of appointment , and the swearing-in of the new mayor.
Special attention was given to city council chairman Manfred Dittrich , who announced that he would not be running for re-election in the upcoming local elections . After more than 30 years of voluntary service in local politics, he was honored by those present with a long and enthusiastic round of applause .
Numerous greetings underscored the significance of the evening. In addition to representatives from all of Weiterstadt's political factions speakers included Dr. Harmut Lissinna , headmaster of the Albrecht Dürer School; Minister Heike Hofmann ; Maximilian Schimmel, member of the state parliament and mayor-elect of Pfungstadt; Lutz Köhler , ; and Sebastian Bubenzer, representing the district mayors' association. Representatives of Weiterstadt's clubs and associations, Michael Gießelbach , and Dr. Rauber, Managing Director of the Hessian Association of Towns and Municipalities, extended their congratulations to the new mayor.
The cultural program was provided by the Bräuschter Shanty Choir , the Jazz Angels and the Mirage dance group of SG Weiterstadt .
Niklas Gehnich expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him and the tremendous support. He looked forward to making many new contacts and encouraged the guests to use the evening for conversation and networking . He extended his special thanks to the event organizers and his team .
Niklas Gehnich will take office as mayor of Weiterstadt on January 2, 2026 .
