The Ratskeller was packed and the atmosphere was great
In the Regenten-Stube (Regent's Room) of the Darmstadt town hall cellar, the participants of the CDU New Year's reception stood and sat close together. The guests came from politics, business, and local associations.
Paul Georg Wandrey, chairman of the CDU Darmstadt, made it clear in his welcoming remarks: “After the attacks on our emergency services on New Year's Eve, it is not enough to simply express sympathy and outrage. There must be clear consequences when our emergency services are attacked.” Wandrey announced that he would do everything within his power to ensure greater security and consistent prosecution. Following him, Dr. Astrid Mannes, CDU Member of the Bundestag, addressed the attendees. Mannes emphasized: “The constant infighting within the coalition government has severely damaged the reputation of politics and public trust in the state. It is time for a government to once again take responsibility for the country and stop being solely preoccupied with itself.” She then addressed current political issues and outlined the solutions the CDU offers. Ines Claus, chairwoman of the CDU parliamentary group in the Hessian State Parliament, echoed this sentiment, stating: “It makes a difference who governs! In Hesse, we demonstrated immediately after the state election that we keep our campaign promises and implement solutions for the people of our state.” She explicitly addressed the protection of women from violent partners, the more consistent fight against child pornography, and the active reduction of bureaucracy in Hesse. All three speakers agreed that political change in Germany is only possible with a strong CDU. This was followed by loud and sustained applause from the audience.
