The Hessian Ried Water Association is planning four facilities for groundwater protection
As the Hessian Ried Water Association reports, two further exploratory boreholes have been drilled south of Griesheim since this week. These investigations are in preparation for the planned construction of four infiltration systems. The work is scheduled to be completed by February 28, 2026.
The boreholes provide insights into the structure and composition of the subsurface. Initial investigations were already carried out in 2025.
Infiltration trenches for groundwater stabilization
The plan includes the construction of so-called infiltration trenches. These are technical installations through which previously treated Rhine water is allowed to seep into the groundwater in a controlled manner. The aim is to stabilize groundwater levels during periods of low rainfall and to secure groundwater extraction in the long term.
East of the Eschollbrücken waterworks, a new infiltration plant was completed in 2025.
Occasional noise may occur
During drilling operations, noise may occur temporarily in the immediate vicinity of the respective drilling site.
