The exhibition showcases oversized everyday objects that straddle the line between stage and sculpture
The exhibition "The Abandoned Stage" is dedicated to the work of the artist Ingrid Honneth , who lives in Bad Soden and has developed a distinctive artistic style over many years. The focus is on objects that at first glance appear inconspicuous and commonplace, but which, through their enlargement, unfold a new, often unsettling presence.
The Art of the Unassuming
Ingrid Honneth explores seemingly banal everyday objects, transforming them into oversized forms. Through this alienation, the objects lose their original function and become independent vehicles of expression. They approach the viewer closely, appearing both fantastical and threatening, and opening up new perspectives on reification and alienation in society.
Between theatre and sculpture
Honneth's artistic approach is shaped by her studies in theater studies in Berlin and her many years of experience as a stage designer. Building on her experiences at the avant-garde theater TAT in Frankfurt am Main and numerous European productions, she developed her own distinctive aesthetic style from 1988 onwards. Her object constellations function as a stage on which social processes become visible.
Materials and artistic background
Honneth works with a wide variety of materials such as bronze, cardboard, fabric, and wool, some of which she overpaints with acrylic paint. This deliberate choice of materials intensifies the tension between the everyday and artistic transformation. In addition to her own artistic practice, Ingrid Honneth co-founded the Frankfurt underground gallery "Die Gehängten" (The Hanged) and, together with Dr. Andreas Honneth, initiated the "Taunus Art Club" in 2015, which is dedicated to promoting art, literature, and philosophy.
