Scouts build an eye-catching structure with ecological added value for young and old
Just in time for the start of the season at Braunshardt Castle Park on April 1st, a new highlight was set up in the right avenue of the park: A lovingly built insect hotel , which will provide a home for native insects and invite visitors to discover it.
The project was planned and implemented by the Rover group of the DPSG Scouts Weiterstadt together with the castle administration. The material costs were covered by the city of Weiterstadt.
Promoting biodiversity through engagement
The insect hotel combines nature conservation with environmental education: It is intended to promote biodiversity in the castle park by offering nesting and overwintering opportunities to various insect species – such as wild bees, ladybugs or lacewings.
“Such a project not only brings ecological added value, but also creates enthusiasm for nature conservation, especially among younger visitors,” explains Moritz Fischer of the Scouts, who has been leading the project.
Learning through observation
The insect hotel invites park visitors to explore the often overlooked world of insects. Children and families now have the opportunity to observe the creatures in their natural environment and learn more about their importance in the ecosystem.
The new building not only adds another attraction to Braunshardt Castle Park, but also provides a visible symbol of sustainability and environmental awareness.
