Event in the Christoph-Bär-Halle sets an example of solidarity
Numerous women from Riedstadt, Groß-Gerau, Biebesheim am Rhein and other places in the region celebrated a varied afternoon in the Christoph-Bär-Halle on International Women's Day.
The event on March 8th was so well attended that additional chairs had to be provided at the beginning. Many participants wore purple clothing as a symbol of the women's movement.
Cooperation of several initiatives
The event was hosted by the Biebesheim Women's Association and the Groß-Gerau Grandmothers Against the Right. It was supported by the city of Riedstadt, the women's and equal opportunities officer Jennifer Muth and her colleague Kerstin Kalweit, and the Groß-Gerau district's Office for Equal Opportunities.
The program was moderated by Christine Meister from the Biebesheim Women's Association and Annemarie Hinsberger from the Groß-Gerau Grandmothers Against the Right. The event's motto was "Grow Together ." Meister explained in her welcoming remarks that the theme was in response to increasing right-wing political tendencies and attacks on equality and self-determination. She emphasized the importance of maintaining dialogue and demonstrating solidarity.
Greeting from the Mayor
Marcus Kretschmann also addressed the topic of solidarity in his welcoming remarks. He stated that it is a central foundation for a functioning democracy. At the same time, he thanked Jennifer Muth, the equal opportunities officer for Riedstadt, for the intensive exchange and cooperation.
Poetry slam, music and film
In addition to spoken contributions, cultural events shaped the afternoon's program. Poetry slammers Jessica Davis and Kaddy Kupfer provided entertainment. Fourteen-year-old singer Roxy and singer-songwriter Sabine Perl contributed to the musical program.
The Icelandic-American documentary "A Day Without Women ," which focuses on the historic women's strike in Iceland on October 24, 1975, attracted particular interest. At that time, around 90 percent of Icelandic women went on strike and demonstrated for equal rights.
Exchange and networking
During a longer break and after the film, many visitors took the opportunity to chat. Lively discussions took place at the tables, with laughter and talk about joint projects.
