Performance on August 24th with participants from ten partner cities
DARMSTADT – The International Youth Orchestra Darmstadt to its annual concert on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at 5 p.m. Orangerie Darmstadt . Admission is free; donations are welcome. The opening remarks will be given by Mayor and Head of Cultural Affairs Hanno Benz .
Every year, the orchestra brings together young musicians from Darmstadt and its partner cities. In just three days of rehearsals, they develop a program that is performed at the concert. Following this, in 2025, the orchestra will tour Latvia to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Darmstadt's partner city, Liepāja .
Mayor Benz emphasized the importance of the project:
“The International Youth Orchestra Darmstadt is a central component of the international cooperation of the science city of Darmstadt. It enables young people from many different countries to understand and accept the culture, customs and worldview of others through music and shared experiences. At the same time, it strengthens our city partnerships.”
This year, 37 musicians participating – including 14 from Darmstadt and others from the partner cities of Alkmaar, Brescia, Freiberg, Gyönk, Logroño, Płock, Saanen, San Antonio, Troyes, and Liepāja. In addition to the concert in Darmstadt, the program includes joint rehearsals, meetings, and a performance in Liepāja.
