Extensive program of events around March 8th
To mark International Women's Day on March 8th, numerous institutions and initiatives in the Groß-Gerau district are hosting a diverse program. For over 100 years, International Women's Day has stood for the commitment to equality and women's rights. In 2026, the range of topics extends from political participation and social issues to culture, literature, and public discourse.
Saturday, March 7
In Rüsselsheim, the "Market of Opportunities – Bread and Roses" opens at 10:30 a.m. in the town square by the church. Also starting at 10:30 a.m., the exhibition "Rebels – Women Changing the World" can be seen at freiraum f3.
In Kelsterbach, Ute Janik will be speaking about "The Heroine Within You" at the city and school library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration is required.
A women's breakfast with a lecture by Patricia Feger will begin at 10 a.m. in the Schubert5 neighborhood center in Mörfelden-Walldorf.
In the evening at 7 p.m., Suzanne Bohn will give a lecture on Louise Michel at the art gallery at the Büchnerhaus in Riedstadt. Also on Saturday, the Achterbahn eV association will present the revue "Seven Women – One Show!" at the Burg-Lichtspiele cinema in Ginsheim-Gustavsburg at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Sunday, March 8
In Mörfelden, a solidarity Women's Day breakfast will take place at the Kulturbahnhof from 10 am to 2 pm.
In Bischofsheim, lectures and creative activities will begin at 3 pm in the Protestant community center.
The Rüsselsheim City and Industry Museum offers a guided tour entitled "Women's Lives - Women's Work" at 3 pm.
The symposium “Women Artists in Focus” starts at 4 pm in the Opel Villas in Rüsselsheim.

On March 9th, Büchner Prize winner Ursula Krechel will be reading at the BüchnerBühne in Riedstadt.
On March 11th, the musical reading “I am Astrid from Småland” with Gesine Cukrowski will take place at the Rüsselsheim Theatre.
On March 12th, the Social Network in Trebur invites you to a film screening followed by a discussion.
On March 13th, the reading “At the Expense of Mothers” with Dr. Brigit Häppel is on the program at the VHS Rüsselsheim.
The exhibition “Unrestrained Women” has been on display at the Rüsselsheim city library since February 19th and will continue until March 21st.
