Unknown persons change diversion signs – Wandrey urges consideration
Darmstadt. The bridge structures for pedestrians, cyclists, and motor vehicles at Lake Brentano have been demolished. The new bridge support is currently being built, and the pipes for the culvert will then be laid.
"Everyone involved is aware that the ongoing construction work will cause significant disruptions, especially for local residents," explained Paul Georg Wandrey, Head of the Department of Transportation. "What is completely unacceptable, however, is that diversion signs have repeatedly been deliberately altered, signs moved, or traffic sign covers removed. Furthermore, some pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers regularly ignore the barriers on Jägertorstraße or remove them without authorization."
To protect all road users, parts of the construction site will now be additionally secured with construction fences.
Removing or ignoring traffic signs is not only an administrative offense punishable by fines – according to Wandrey, it primarily endangers safety. "Should an accident occur, the question of liability also arises," the department head said.
He emphasized that construction work is on schedule: "All involved are working with great concentration and close cooperation to complete the construction work within the planned timeframe. This requires the support and understanding of the public."
