A spry birthday celebrant, full of joie de vivre and a large dose of humor
As the Groß-Gerau district administration reports, First District Councillor Adil Oyan Jakob Best of Geinsheim on Thursday to celebrate his 101st birthday Jochen Engel also paid a personal visit – a sign of special appreciation for this extraordinary milestone.
A remarkably vital 101-year-old
Jakob Best impresses with his vitality: spry, cheerful, and with a great sense of humor, he welcomed his guests. One secret to his long life might lie right at home: his son Herbert and daughter-in-law Anneliese lovingly care for him. For 34 years, Anneliese has provided him with "healthy produce from their own garden" every day. And although the birthday celebrant now tends his garden somewhat more quietly, he still attends church twice a week.
A life story full of experience
Born in Worfelden Jakob Best
returned home from French captivity after the war and has been living in Geinsheim For 36 years he worked at Opel in the testing department – “the extended arm of the engineers,” as his family describes it. His connection to the car manufacturer continues to this day: For his 100th birthday, he proudly posed in front of a historic 1924 Opel with a pointed radiator grille , a moment captured in his photo album.
Humor into old age
Humor, joie de vivre, and quick wit are second nature to the 101-year-old. When Oyan said at his farewell, "Mr. Best is fantastic for 101," the centenarian immediately replied:
"At 90, you think 100 is still possible. At 100, you think I can manage 101 too. Now I'm curious to see what happens."
Oyan announced that he would come again next year – of course with flowers and good wishes.
