Solution for green waste disposal found in Nauheim
NAUHEIM – Following the discovery of the Japanese beetle in Trebur, the Giessen Regional Council issued a general order on August 25, 2025, to contain the spread of the dangerous pest. The beetle is considered a significant threat to agriculture, forestry, horticulture, and viticulture.
Trebur is classified as a "core zone," and Nauheim as a "buffer zone" due to its proximity. Together with the affected municipalities, a solution has now been found for the safe disposal of green waste from the buffer zone.
Central collection point in Nauheim
After inspecting the Sonnenwerk recycling center in Bischofsheim , the Giessen District Council confirmed that it is possible to store green waste from the buffer zone there. For Nauheim, the municipal waste collection service will be carried out directly to Bischofsheim.
This means that with immediate effect:
- The Nauheim building yard is once again the central collection point for green waste (during normal opening hours).
- Only green waste and plant waste that is chopped and smaller than 5 cm may be placed in the organic waste bin
- Grass clippings from motor-driven lawn mowers (not scythes or cylinder mowers) may also be put in the organic waste bin if they are smaller than 5 cm.
- The organic waste bins will continue to be emptied at the usual frequency.
The regulation is initially valid until September 30 , the end of the Japanese beetle's active flight period. The municipality of Nauheim announces that it will provide timely updates on further developments in pest control.
