Works by Nicole Schneide
In her exhibition at the city church, Nicole Schneider presents facets of her multifaceted work on the theme of "Jazz." The Darmstadt-based artist Nicole Schneider is known to many musicians in the German jazz scene for her analog and digital concert sketches.
Nicole Schneider's passion for jazz and her desire to continually explore new visual avenues of expression within this music drives her to experiment artistically in a variety of ways. During concerts, she creates live sketches, which for her represent the most authentic way to capture the direct listening experience. She alternates between analog and digital drawing techniques, depending on the music. Over the past few years, this has resulted in hundreds of sketches created around jazz events in Darmstadt and the Rhine-Main region. These sketches form the basis for further artistic works.
Nicole Schneider maintains close contact with musicians in the jazz scene, and these connections often lead to collaborative projects.
For example, in 2023 she designed the cover and booklet for the CD "We'll Rise" by the internationally renowned pianist Anke Helfrich, a work exploring the biographies of female figures.
In 2022, she and the well-known Berlin guitarist Ronny Graupe received a residency at the Jazz Institute Darmstadt for their newly conceived format "DUO:LOG": an audiovisual performance in which musician and artist engage in dialogue as equals. She also collaborates with the Israeli pianist Itay Dvori.
On Saturday, February 15, 2025, the artist will perform a cross-genre performance in the city church together with the double bassist Norbert Dömling, the flautist Stephanie Wagner and the writer Paul-Hermann Gruner, an exciting experience – even for non-jazz fans.
