Jazz workshop in the open air from July 7th to 12th at the Bessunger Knabenschule (Bessunger Boys' School)
From July 7th to 12th, 2025, Darmstadt will once again transform into a workshop for creative jazz: The Darmstadt JazzConceptions will enter their 34th round.
What was started in Jürgen Wuchner (1948–2020)
The recipe for success? A pure ensemble workshop that personal responsibility , individual creativity , and the diversity of contemporary jazz concepts . Participants work closely with renowned musicians, explore musical ideas together, and venture into new improvisational spaces.
The Darmstadt JazzConceptions are a joint event of the Bessunger Knabenschule Cultural Center and the Darmstadt Jazz Institute. They are supported by the Hessian Ministry of Science and Research, Arts and Culture, and by the City of Darmstadt

Jamming in the open air
open-air sessions this year , where both spontaneous improvisations and initial results from the workshops can be heard:
- Tuesday, July 8 · Hoffart Theatre (Lauteschlägerstraße)
- Wednesday, July 9 · Palace Garden (Bastion) In case of rain: Palace Cellar
- Thursday, July 10 · Klause (near the main train station) In case of rain: Basement Jazz Institute
- The events start at 8:00 PM , and admission is free.

Two final concerts full of energy
Friday, July 11th, 8:00 PM:
Four workshop ensembles will present their work. Diverse musical styles, fresh ideas, and intensive group work will make this evening a truly memorable experience.
Saturday, July 12th, 8:00 PM:
Two more ensembles of participants will perform, before the instructors themselves take to the stage for the finale. Their joint gig is a definite highlight – energetic, virtuosic, pure jazz.

The concerts take place on the open-air stage in the courtyard – in case of bad weather, they will be moved indoors. Admission is free every evening.
