The city of science and the Jewish community are setting an example for the diversity and visibility of Jewish life
Darmstadt. From September 3 to December 14, 2025, the City of Darmstadt and the Jewish Community of Darmstadt jointly celebrate the Jewish Cultural Weeks 2025. The series of events brings cultural, social, and political perspectives of Jewish life visible and audible to the city's society – a sign of diversity, dialogue, and solidarity.
Kick-off with a prominent panel discussion at the Centralstation
The grand opening will take place on Wednesday, September 3rd at 7 pm at the Centralstation Darmstadt . The event will feature a panel discussion with psychologist and author Ahmad Mansour Philipp Peyman Engel , editor-in-chief of the "Jüdische Allgemeine" and recipient of the Ricarda Huch Prize . Musical accompaniment will be provided by the " Duo Duor ".
Admission is free. Participation is only possible with prior registration via www.jg-darmstadt.de/anmeldung . Media representatives are also invited to the opening.
A sign of tolerance and against anti-Semitism
Mayor Hanno Benz emphasizes the social significance of the Jewish Cultural Weeks:
“Eighty years after the end of the war, we can rejoice in a vibrant Jewish community in our midst. The Jewish Cultural Weeks are an expression of this. Celebrating all that constitutes Jewish life in Darmstadt and worldwide is an important symbol for our cosmopolitan city. We resolutely oppose antisemitism in any form.”
Daniel Neumann also emphasizes the importance of the event series:
“Although the conditions for open and visible Jewish life are becoming increasingly difficult, retreat is not an option. Attack is the best form of defense. Therefore, we look forward to an even larger and more diverse Jewish Culture Weeks in 2025 and wish all visitors many insightful, impressive, and beautiful moments.”
