Semi-staged performance at the darmstadtium – Good Friday, April 18, 2025, at 5 p.m
The Darmstadt Concert Choir and the Darmstadt Court Orchestra will present Johann Sebastian Bach's "St. John Passion" at the darmstadtium on Good Friday, April 18, 2025, at 5 p.m. Under the direction of Wolfgang Seeliger, the work will be performed in its final and most widely accepted fourth version from 1749 – in an impressive semi-staged performance.

Alongside the St. Matthew Passion, the St. John Passion is one of Johann Sebastian Bach's central sacred compositions. The Passion recounts the suffering and death of Jesus from various perspectives. The Evangelist John guides the listener through the events, while arias and choruses powerfully portray the voices of Jesus, Peter, and Pilate. Through Bach's masterful combination of chorales, arias, and choruses, a musical work unfolds, full of expressive power and spiritual depth.
The scenic elements of the Darmstadt Concert Choir lend the performance a special intensity and make the Passion story emotionally tangible. Performances of the "St. John Passion" in this form are considered musical highlights of Holy Week.
