Are fast-paced fight scenes in Hollywood films Kung Fu, Karate, or Taekwondo? No, mostly Filipino Martial Arts (FMA). Even in films by Bruce Lee and Steven Seagal.
Martial arts fascinate many people. Some want to feel more confident, others are looking for an exciting recreational sport, or want to develop their personality. Since the early 1960s, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese martial arts have been the most popular, but the world of martial arts has become much more diverse. Since Hollywood has increasingly used Filipino martial arts in its action scenes, more and more people are becoming interested in Arnis, Kali, and Escrima – the Filipino Martial Arts, or FMA for short.
The best-known Filipino martial art (FMA) is Modern Arnis, which is promoted by the DAV, the largest Filipino martial arts association in Germany. Modern Arnis is not only a martial art but also an effective form of self-defense using weapons, everyday objects, and no weapons. The Jason Bourne films illustrate this. Modern Arnis is not commercially disseminated but is primarily practiced in clubs so that everyone can afford to train.
