City invests 1.4 million euros in modern and climate-friendly building
Reinheim. After approximately one and a half years of construction, the energy-efficient renovation of the "Am Gockert" daycare center successfully completed. Despite ongoing operations, the extensive work was completed on schedule. Only minor improvements to the building services remain.
With a total investment of approximately €1.4 million , including approximately €340,000 in funding from the state of Hesse , the over 30-year-old building was comprehensively modernized. The daycare center now achieves the KfW 70 energy efficiency rating —almost equivalent to a new building.
Comprehensive modernization and sustainable technology
As part of the renovation, the building envelope was completely renewed :
- The roof surfaces were dismantled down to the static system and re-insulated.
- The exterior walls were given a modern thermal insulation composite system .
- Windows and doors were replaced with triple-glazed thermal insulation components .
Heating is now provided by an air-to-water heat pump combined with a controlled ventilation system with heat recovery , which boasts 92 percent 29.9 kWp photovoltaic system on the south- and west-facing roofs will produce a large portion of the building's electricity needs.
The new decentralized hot water system contributes to energy savings.
Parents decided on color scheme
Manuel Feick is particularly proud of the involvement of parents in the design:
"As with many projects in our city, we also encouraged public participation here. Parents were able to decide on the facade design – and the result is truly impressive."
Thanks to everyone involved
The construction work took place while the daycare center was still operating—a particular challenge for everyone involved. Mayor Feick, along with deputy daycare center director Pia Senft :
"A heartfelt thank you to educators, children, tradespeople, and our building authorities who have mastered this challenging time together."
Contribution to the municipal climate strategy
With the completed renovation, the city of Reinheim is setting a clear example for climate protection and energy efficiency in the municipal sector . The combination of modern building technology, high-quality insulation, and renewable energies has significantly reduced the facility's energy consumption.
Mayor Feick summarized:
"We are investing in a modern and healthy environment for our children – and at the same time making an important contribution to climate protection. The 'Am Gockert' daycare center exemplifies how municipal buildings can be designed for the future: energy-efficient, sustainable, and economical."
