The city is investing 1.4 million euros in a modern and climate-friendly building
Reinheim. After approximately one and a half years of construction, the energy-efficient renovation of the "Am Gockert" daycare center successfully completed. Despite the center remaining open, the extensive work was carried out according to schedule. Only minor finishing touches to the building services remain.
With a total investment of around €1.4 million , including approximately €340,000 in subsidies from the state of Hesse , the over 30-year-old building underwent extensive modernization. The daycare center now achieves the KfW 70 energy efficiency standard – putting it almost on par with a new building.
Comprehensive modernization and sustainable technology
As part of the renovation, the building envelope was completely renewed :
- The roof surfaces were stripped back to the static system and insulated anew.
- The exterior walls were fitted with a modern external thermal insulation composite system .
- Windows and doors were replaced with triple-glazed thermal insulation components .
Heating is now provided by an air-to-water heat pump in combination with a controlled ventilation system with heat recovery – boasting an efficiency of 92 percent . In addition, a 29.9 kWp photovoltaic system on the south- and west-facing roof surfaces will generate a large portion of the building's electricity needs.
The new decentralized hot water system contributes to energy savings.
Parents decided on color scheme
Mayor Manuel Feick of the involvement of parents in the design process:
"As with many projects in our city, we also enabled citizen participation here. The parents were able to decide on the facade design – and the result is truly impressive."
Thanks to everyone involved
The construction work took place while the daycare center remained open – a particular challenge for everyone involved. Mayor Feick, together with deputy daycare director Pia Senft, :
“A heartfelt thank you to the educators, children, tradespeople and our building authority who mastered this challenging time together.”
Contribution to the municipal climate strategy
With the completed renovation, the city of Reinheim is sending a clear signal for climate protection and energy efficiency in the municipal sector . Through the combination of modern building technology, high-quality insulation, and renewable energies, the facility's energy consumption has been significantly reduced.
Mayor Feick summarized:
“Here we are investing in a modern and healthy environment for our children – and at the same time making an important contribution to climate protection. The ‘Am Gockert’ daycare center is an exemplary model of how municipal buildings can be designed to be future-proof: energy-efficient, sustainable and economical.”
