Open day celebrates the start of the new daycare center in Riedstadt
With a large archway of balloons and a ceremonial ribbon-cutting, the new daycare center An der Riedbahn in Riedstadt was officially opened on Saturday, August 30. Mayor Marcus Kretschmann, daycare center director Eva-Tamara Demus, and her deputy Anja Müller welcomed numerous guests to the open day.
Demus marked her appreciation with a red carpet as she and her team walked into the classroom. "I have great respect for your educational work," emphasized the daycare center director. A total of 19 educational professionals work at the new facility, supplemented by trainees, additional staff, and housekeeping and cleaning staff.
Long planning and construction time
The daycare center's origins date back to 2017, when City Hall first considered converting a former supermarket. Ultimately, the city decided to become the developer itself in order to access funding totaling over €1.3 million. The pandemic, supply bottlenecks, and cost increases delayed construction, so the shell work could not begin until August 2022. After moving from temporary accommodation in the Wolfskehlen Community Center in April 2024, the official opening now followed.
The total cost, after deducting subsidies, amounts to approximately €8.1 million. The 1,550-square-meter facility accommodates four daycare centers and two crèche groups. At full capacity, it can accommodate up to 124 children.
Joy about new furnishings
"Something truly wonderful has been created here, with outstanding management and a fantastic team," said Mayor Kretschmann. Numerous guests took advantage of the open house to tour the new facilities. A variety of games were available for the children, while culinary stations provided refreshments.
With the opening of the An der Riedbahn daycare center, childcare in Riedstadt is secured for the coming years.
