City reacts to rising operating costs / families with low income can apply for discharge
August 1, 2025, the science city of Darmstadt adapts the parents' contributions for childcare for all providers and the catering costs for daycare centers in urban sponsors . The magistrate decided this in its meeting on Wednesday (April 2).
The reason for the adaptation is the increased operating costs as a result of inflation, higher consumer prices and tariff increases in the public service. Barbara Akdeniz and city treasurer, André Schellenberg, the decision was "not easy", but compared to other cities in a moderate nature .
New fees from August 2025
The amount of contribution is still based on the age of the child and the scope of care:
- Crib (U3) with up to 50 hours of care: from € 253.12 to € 270
- Kindergarten (Ü3) with up to 50 hours of care: from € 101.25 to € 150
- Kindergarten (module B) with up to 6 hours: remains free of charge
- Hortcare : from € 179.15 to € 220
Quality is preserved
The city emphasizes that despite increasing costs, the Darmstadt quality standards in early childhood education remain untouched. Akdeniz:
"Darmstadt not only offers comparatively inexpensive parent -chart, but also long childcare times. In the region there are often significantly higher contributions with a shorter offer."
With the return to the module D (up to 50 hours per week) after the temporary cut, according to the city, a central concern of many families is also implemented.
Support for low -income families
Parents with low incomes can apply to the Darmstadt youth welfare office for exemption from contributions or a discount . The catering costs be covered by the Office for Social Affairs and Prevention or the Job Center Darmstadt as part of the educational and participation package
