High award for commitment to Riedstadt - Tauragė in town twinning
The long -time chairman of the Riedstadt partnership association "Friends of Tauragė", Klaus Minter, has been awarded the Lithuanian Order of Merit. On the occasion of the national holiday on February 16, 2025, the President of the Republic of Lithuania, Gitanas Nausėda, presented him with the honor in the capital Vilnius. Minter's merits were recognized to consolidate partnership relationships between Tauragė and Riedstadt as well as his contribution to promoting bilateral cooperation between Lithuania and Germany.
"This award does not stand for me alone, but for the community of both partnership associations," emphasized Klaus Minter in the Working Group on the Defortance, where he reported on the trip to Lithuania. He was accompanied by his son Olaf Minter. Vilius Petrauskas, chairman of the partnership association in Tauragė, was also present at the ceremony.
Award for many years of commitment
Riedstadt Mayor Marcus Kretschmann used the most recent meeting of the Working Group on March 17 to officially congratulate Klaus Minter. As part of a meeting of the sophisticated groups with Brienne-Le-Château (France), Sortino (Italy) and Tauragė (Lithuania), he praised Minter's commitment: "This clearly shows that this is a very special partnership." As a sign of recognition, Kretschmann presented a gift basket on behalf of the city.
Klaus Minter has been active since the foundation of the partnership in 1993 and 1994. After the death of the founding chairman Kurt Ernst in 2012, he took over the chair of the association. Humanitarian aid transports to Tauragė were particularly important in the early years. Transports are also regularly organized today, but the focus is on cultural exchange and grown friendships.
