Offsers in the elephant park: Cologne Zoo celebrates a small sensation - a visit is always worthwhile
A small Asian elephant was born on March 7, 2025 in Cologne Zoo - the 14th young animal in the history of the elephant park. Even without a name, but already full of discovery, the elephant baby moves together with its herd through the extensive outdoor enclosure and the impressive elephant house. The birth of the small pachyderm is currently a special attraction for young and old - and a nice occasion for a family outing to Cologne.
One of the largest elephant parks in Europe
The elephant park of the Cologne Zoo is one of the largest and most modern systems north of the Alps with 20,000 square meters. Eleven Asian elephants - led by Leitkuh Kreblamduan - currently live here in a natural family association. The zoo attaches great importance to a species-appropriate attitude and, when training, relies on modern methods such as the so-called target training, which enables animals to participate and stress-free care.
The attitude of elephants in Cologne Zoo has over 160 years of history. During this time, a lot has changed: from the tight enclosure and direct contact with elephant hooks to today's flagship park with animal -friendly design, generous outdoor areas and a consistent separation between animal and humans, which nevertheless allows intensive care.
12,000 animals and exciting animal houses
But not only the elephants make the Cologne zoo a worthwhile destination. Around 12,000 animals from all over the world live on the extensive terrain. Modern animal houses, such as the rainforest house or the aquarium, offer exciting insights into the animal world even when the weather is inconsistent. Generous outdoor facilities and idyllic parking space invite you to linger - a varied experience for all ages.
