New recreational area combines nature, play and social interaction in the heart of the neighborhood
With the completion of the eastern section of the landscaped staircase in the Ludwigshöhe district, Darmstadt has realized a key element of its new neighborhood development. On Monday (May 26), Michael Kolmer, Head of Green Spaces, and Armin Niedenthal , CEO of bauverein AG, presented the new green space, which is intended to play a key role in fostering community spirit in the district.
“The landscaped staircase is the heart of the new neighborhood,” said Kolmer. “With its features that encourage exercise, climbing, and play for young and old alike, it brings people together in the Ludwigshöhe district and has an impact beyond.” It connects Karl-Plagge-Platz with the adjacent forest to the east and the Bessunger Kiesgrube nature reserve to the west. Construction of the western section of the landscaped staircase is already underway.
Leisure, play and nature conservation combined
The design cleverly utilizes the topographical differences in elevation of up to 20 meters :
- calisthenics park can be found on a bastion with a viewpoint.
- A climbing wall with a slide exit and a cable car complement the sports facilities.
- For toddlers, there are accessible play opportunities with a viewing tube, funnel telephones and huts
- A walkable wooden boardwalk allows visitors to experience a protected habitat for sand lizards , accompanied by information panels.
A total of 72 new trees planted and generous play and recreation areas were created.
Contribution to the quality of life in the growing neighborhood
Around 1,000 people will live in the Ludwigshöhe district in the future. With the first section of the landscaped staircase already completed, an attractive local recreation area is available. "We are delighted that our tenants can already benefit from this high-quality recreational space," emphasizes Armin Niedenthal of bauverein AG.
The project was implemented by BVD New Living GmbH & Co. KG , a subsidiary of bauverein AG, based on urban development agreements with the City of Darmstadt. Planning was carried out in close coordination with the Parks and Green Spaces Department .
