The final event in the series "Society of Fear?" will be on December 10th with Dr. Marcel Dirsus.
As the Darmstadt Network for Political Education announces, the final lecture of the autumn series "Society of Fear? Between Crisis, Change, and the Principle of Hope" will take place on Wednesday, December 10. Political scientist, author, and consultant Dr. Marcel Dirsus will speak at the Offenes Haus (Open House), Rheinstraße 31. The lecture begins at 7 p.m. Admission is free; donations are welcome. This is a rescheduled date from October 22.
Democracy under pressure – topics of the evening
Democracies worldwide face growing challenges. Electoral successes of populist and autocratic movements, as well as declining scores in the World Democracy Index, highlight these tensions.
This presentation will address questions such as:
– What are the strengths and weaknesses of democracy and dictatorship?
– Why does democracy remain a superior model despite criticism?
– How can society contribute to the stabilization of liberal democracies?
About the person: Dr. Marcel Dirsus
Dr. Dirsus works as a political scientist, author, and consultant to political institutions. He runs the newsletter "The Hundred," which provides concise summaries of complex political developments. His book "How Dictators Fall—and How Democrats Can Win" was named one of the best books of 2024 Economist
