The City Academy accompanies the exhibition by Robert Zandvliet
The Protestant City Academy Darmstadt will launch a new series of events on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, entitled “Paradises: Places of longing, temptations and earthly art of living”.
The series takes place at the Kunsthalle Darmstadt and accompanies the current exhibition “Paradaidha” by the Dutch artist Robert Zandvliet.
The opening scene offers a philosophical perspective on paradise
The series kicks off on April 7th with a lecture by Wilhelm Schmid. Titled "Is there a swing in paradise?", it will address questions of happiness, perfection, and human limitations.
All events start at 6:30 pm and will also be streamed online.
Topics ranging from sustainability to spirituality
In the following weeks, the series will explore different perspectives on the theme of "paradise":
- On April 14th, Maike Sippel will speak about consumption and sustainable lifestyles
- On April 21st, Bettina Bohle will discuss the connection between jazz and the search for meaning in life
- On April 28th, Peter Zimmerling will illuminate the garden as a spiritual place
- The event concludes on May 5th with a lecture by Thomas Fuchs on physicality in the digital world
Impulses for confidence and the art of living
According to the organizers, the event series aims to provide food for thought on how people can find orientation and confidence in a complex present.
