The "Science for All" series will highlight the life cycle of lightweight stellar objects on June 18th.
As part of the "Science for All" , the GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research, together with FAIR, invites you to a public lecture on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 , at 2 p.m. – this time entitled "Stellar Lightweights – Their Birth, Their Life, Their Death" . The speaker is Harald Horneff from the Darmstadt Public Observatory. The event will take place in a hybrid format .
The lecture will focus on stars with roughly the mass of our Sun. Their evolution, from a turbulent formation process through a long period of relative calm to their peaceful end, is not only fascinating but also raises fundamental astrophysical questions.
In addition to a journey through billions of years of stellar life, the audience will encounter, Hertzsprung-Russell diagram nuclear fusion . Horneff has a knack for connecting scientific content with personal experiences: A mistake in a calendar text once led him to astronomy and eventually to the Darmstadt Public Observatory, where he has been giving lectures and seminars ever since.
Participation in the event is free of charge. Further information on how to access the event (online or on-site) can be found on the GSI Helmholtz Centre .
