Discussion with Prof. Dr. Roman Dubasevych on September 10th at the Open House
The Protestant Deanery of Darmstadt and the Darmstadt Peace Alliance to a lecture followed by a discussion on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 the Open House, Rheinstraße 31. It begins at 7 p.m. The speaker is Prof. Dr. Roman Dubasevych (University of Greifswald), who will be joining online.
The lecture is titled: “War and Trauma in Ukraine: From Patsan to Veteran, from Raion to Nation.” In addition to geopolitical interpretations of the Russian war of aggression, Dubasevych focuses on cultural and symbolic dimensions, particularly conflicts over memory and language, as well as heroic images of masculinity , which play a significant role in both Russia and Ukraine.
The junior professor and chair holder of Ukrainian studies deals with the cultural background of the war, the continuity of Soviet traumas and the behavior of modern nation states in conflict situations.
