Child protection project will be officially presented on June 29th at the children's day in Worfelden
The municipality of Büttelborn sets a strong sign of child protection: so-called Leon-Hilfe Islands set up in all districts in the future. The official performance will take place on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at 12 p.m. as part of the children's day in Worfeld - in cooperation with the Hesse police. Mayor Marcus Merkel is pleased with the broad support: numerous shops and public institutions take part in the project.
The concept of the Leon-Hilfe Islands is simple and effective: shops and facilities along school and kindergarten paths are characterized by a clearly visible sticker in the entrance area. This signals to children that they receive help here in an emergency - be it with minor problems such as a lost key or in threatening situations.
The participating employees are trained in advance by the police and know how to behave in emergencies. They convey calm, offer protection and take measures such as contacting the police, parents or youth welfare if necessary.
"Children need special protection - and we want them to feel safe in Büttelborn," said Mayor Merkel. "I thank everyone who participates in this important project."
The Leon-Hilfe Islands can be seen on a colorful poster with the children's commissioner of the Hessian police. Interested families can find out about the project at the children's day in Worfelden on site.
