The child protection project will be officially presented on June 29th at Children's Day in Worfelden
The municipality of Büttelborn is taking a strong stand for child protection: So-called "Leon Help Islands" established in all districts. The official launch will take place on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at 12 noon as part of Children's Day in Worfelden – in cooperation with the Hessian police. Mayor Marcus Merkel is delighted with the broad support: Numerous businesses and public institutions are participating in the project.
The concept of the Leon Help Islands is simple and effective: Shops and establishments along school and kindergarten routes mark themselves with a clearly visible sticker at the entrance. This signals to children that they can get help here in an emergency – be it for minor problems like a lost key or in threatening situations.
The participating staff members receive prior training from the police and know how to behave in emergencies. They provide calm, offer protection, and, if necessary, initiate measures such as contacting the police, parents, or youth services.
“Children need special protection – and we want them to feel safe in Büttelborn,” said Mayor Merkel. “I thank everyone who is involved in this important project.”
The Leon Help Islands are easily identifiable by a colorful poster featuring the children's commissioner of the Hessian police. Interested families can learn more about the project at the Children's Day event in Worfelden.
