As the organizers announce, the German Federation for the Environment and Nature Conservation (BUND), the Darmstadt Public Observatory, and the Darmstadt Adult Education Center invite you to an evening walk entitled "Light Pollution in Practice" on Friday, March 6, at 8 p.m. The topic of the walk is the increasing artificial lighting in public spaces and its effects on people and nature.
Artificial lighting and its consequences
The tour will be led by Christian Roßberg from the public observatory and Brigitte Martin from the German Federation for the Environment and Nature Conservation (BUND). Different forms of artificial lighting on streets and paths, on buildings, in parks, and in public squares will be presented.
The focus is on the effects of outdoor lighting on insects and other animals, on plants, and on humans. Measures to adapt lighting to specific needs are also discussed, in order to reduce negative effects and better protect biodiversity.
