Victorian magic and dangerous secrets
The reading will be from the novel "The Serpent of Evil ," published by Torsten Low . The story takes place in 1887 at Cambridge University .
The story centers on Elinor, a young woman with a Victorian upbringing who defies societal expectations. Instead of entering into a marriage befitting her social standing, she wants to study. As the only woman among men, she is admitted to Royston College, where arcane sciences – a form of scientific magic – are taught.
But Elinor's courage leads her into dangerous situations: not all professors and students accept her presence. Intrigue, conspiracies, and supernatural beings like werewolves shape everyday life at the college. The question of whom to trust is a central theme throughout the novel.
