The focus is on contemporary female authors and new formats
The Darmstadt Literature House, part of the city of Darmstadt, has presented its spring 2026 program. The program's main focus is entitled "Women in Motion," highlighting contemporary female authors, new outreach formats, and literary anniversaries.
The full program is available online on the Literaturhaus website. Printed copies of the program are now available at numerous public locations in Darmstadt. Advance tickets can be purchased via ztix.de; remaining tickets will be available at the box office on the evening of the event.
Mayor and Head of Cultural Affairs Hanno Benz emphasizes: The goal remains to reach as many people as possible with the city's cultural offerings, even in financially challenging times. He wishes the Literaturhaus team every success with the new program and the audience stimulating literary encounters.
Readings with contemporary female authors
The program kicks off on March 13 at 7 p.m. with a reading by Judith Hermann. The author is one of the most influential voices in contemporary German-language literature and will read from her latest work. The event will be moderated by Sandra Kegel, arts editor of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
On March 17th at 7 pm, Daniela Dröscher will present her novel "Young Woman with Cat" . The recipient of the Anna Seghers Prize thematically connects this work to her acclaimed novel "Lies About My Mother" .
A special event will take place on March 24th at 6:30 pm at the House of History: Susanne Röckel will read from her new novel, which is set in Darmstadt in 1968 and intertwines individual life stories with political upheavals. From 6 pm onwards, court records from the Hessian State Archives can be viewed in the reading room.
On April 21st at 7 pm, Lena Gorelik will be a guest with her book "All My Mothers ." In it, she addresses family relationships, migration experiences, and questions of identity. The reading series concludes on April 29th at 7 pm with Dorothee Elmiger, who was awarded the German Book Prize in 2025.
Discussions, anniversaries and mediation
On May 5th at 7 pm the Feminist Quartet discuss selected titles of feminist literature.
Furthermore, the Literaturhaus is expanding its educational offerings. On February 24th at 7 pm, the Darmstadt "Book of the Month" jury will present four novels from the year 2025 and critically analyze them.
Literary anniversaries are also part of the program: On March 31 at 7 p.m., an event will be dedicated to the work of Kurt Drawert on the occasion of his 70th birthday. On May 18 at 7 p.m., the Literaturhaus will commemorate Ingeborg Bachmann, who would have turned one hundred in the summer of 2026.
The evenings of the text workshop will also continue, as well as two events of the format "Oops, a book!" , which provides school classes with low-threshold access to literature.
