“Radgeber” on the Lichtwiese campus
On Monday, January 27, 2025, from 3 to 4 p.m., the newly developed "Radgeber" cargo bike rental system will be inaugurated on the Lichtwiese campus of TU Darmstadt. TU Chancellor Dr. Martin Lommel, HEAG CEO Dr. Markus Hoschek, and other officials will present the digital booking and access system and officially launch the four electrically assisted cargo bikes for free public use.
A collaboration between Heinerbike, the TU Darmstadt student union (AStA), and the TU spin-off Green Mobility Solutions enables students, staff, and private individuals to rent a cargo bike via Book-n-Park . The e-Muli "DELTA-Diwan," which can also be booked and rented via the Darmstadt im Herzen app , is thus the first Heinerbike that can be independently rented and returned around the clock thanks to a digitally controlled locking system.
The idea for the new rental service originated in the federal research project DELTA (Darmstadt Energy Laboratory for Technologies in Application) and was implemented by an interdisciplinary project team in the sub-project "Urban Sharing Models". The majority of the electricity required for the electric assistance of the cargo bikes is provided by a photovoltaic system on the prototype-converted rental container, and the use of the service is being scientifically monitored, as well as its transferability to other neighborhoods.
