Information event by BVM and BI Pro Bürgerpark on February 25th
In the run-up to the 2026 local elections, key municipal political issues are coming into focus in the Martinsviertel district. A total of 578 candidates are running in Darmstadt on 15 different lists. To provide guidance to eligible voters in the district, the Martinsviertel District Association (BVM) and the citizens' initiative Pro Bürgerpark have surveyed the parties and electoral alliances on important questions.
The results of this party survey will be presented at a public information event on Wednesday, February 25, 2026. It will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Heiner Lehr Center at Kopernikusplatz.
Issues that concern the Martinsviertel district
The survey focuses on specific concerns from the neighborhood. These include the planned development of the former fairground. The site was sold to Bauverein AG over six years ago for the purpose of building apartments. Since then, the area has remained undeveloped.
The tight housing situation is also a topic of discussion. Rising rents, the need for social housing, and the lack of affordable housing for students and middle-income households are concerns for many people in the Martinsviertel district.
Another focus is on childcare. The closure of the Max-Rieger-Heim and the current difficult situation surrounding the so-called Baashalle are addressed.
Furthermore, the discussion focuses on the development of urban life in the district. The closure of retail and craft businesses, as well as the decline of restaurants, are identified as problematic developments.
Focus on the city park and green spaces
The planned development in the public park is also a subject of the survey. According to the initiatives, the legal action against the plans has already incurred costs of over €50,000. This sum could only be raised through public support.
The event offers an opportunity to learn about the parties' positions and then join the discussion.
