Sixth energy competition of the Groß-Gerau district
Ulrich Rein, winner of the district's energy competition in 2021, built a low-energy house for himself and his family about 18 years ago. So far, so good – but not good enough for Ulrich Rein.
In the following years, the family further developed the house into an energy-plus building: the insulation was improved, the washing machine is heated by solar power, and the toilet uses rainwater. Two small heat pumps and much more were also added. Ulrich Rein says: "With the ever-growing awareness of climate protection, our ambition to further improve our personal footprint was awakened. It's great that the district is making good projects visible through this competition."
The first energy competition for citizens, associations, and businesses in the Groß-Gerau district was held in 2013. In the first five competitions, 18 individuals or groups and 10 companies or institutions were awarded prizes. This year marks the sixth competition, once again aimed at leading the way. In recent years, the district has received impressive entries: private individuals have submitted projects showcasing both small and large-scale energy-saving measures implemented in their residential buildings. Businesses have submitted projects such as geothermal energy, photovoltaics, and sustainable mobility solutions.
Projects in the areas of energy saving, energy efficiency, and renewable energies can be submitted again this year. Climate protection projects are also expressly encouraged. Whether technological innovations, construction measures, or creative communication and education projects – every contribution counts!
