Youth culture and open youth work must not be allowed to disappear – an appeal to the Protestant deanery
The Darmstadt Green Party is strongly opposed to the potential closure of the Huette youth center . For over 60 years, the facility has been a central hub for open-access children's and youth work in the city center, offering programs such as homework help, drop-in sessions, holiday activities, and recreational trips. The Protestant deanery of Southern Hesse whether the center should be permanently closed.
“The Huette not only offers young people low-threshold social services and support , but is also a vibrant space for youth culture ,” emphasizes Sandra Seeger rehearsal room , currently used by seven youth bands particularly illustrates the great importance of the center for young people in Darmstadt.
Greens warn of loss of cultural infrastructure
Heiko Depner also warns of the consequences: “Especially in a time when social inequality and insecurity are increasing and places of youth culture are being lost, young people need places where they feel taken seriously and can develop themselves .”
The Green Party is therefore appealing to the Protestant deanery to continue operating and to safeguard its social and cultural function. Central meeting places for children and young people are needed – not only in the city's neighborhoods, but also in the heart of the city . "An established and dedicated institution like the Huette must not disappear," Depner concluded.
