A creative attacking player is coming to southern Hesse from 1. FSV Mainz 05
Darmstadt. Shortly before the season opener against VfL Bochum, SV Darmstadt 98 has announced another new signing: Marco Richter join on loan from 1. FSV Mainz 05 for the upcoming season . The 27-year-old attacking player is expected to bolster the Lilies' creative midfield play.
Sporting director Paul Fernie is pleased with the transfer:
"With Marco Richter, we are gaining a very creative and experienced player for the attacking midfield position. He is a technically gifted combination player with a high level of game intelligence. This makes him an excellent fit for our playing style and he embodies the qualities that are important to us in his position."
Marco Richter is also looking forward to the challenge:
“I had great talks with Paul Fernie and Florian Kohfeldt, in which a concrete plan was outlined for me. I like the style of football Darmstadt wants to play, and I believe that my playing style will fit in very well with the team. I already know a few of the guys, and I've only heard positive things about the club from them.”
Experience from over 180 competitive matches in professional football
Richter was trained in the youth academies of FC Bayern Munich and FC Augsburg . At Augsburg, he made the jump to the Bundesliga, where he made 97 appearances in the top flight . His subsequent clubs included Hertha BSC and 1. FSV Mainz 05. Most recently, he was on loan to Hamburger SV 28 competitive appearances in the 2024/25 season .
The Friedberg also played for the DFB's youth national teams and was part of the German squad at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo. Richter will wear the number 23 jersey .
