First Deputy District Administrator Adil Oyan personally congratulates at the Martin Niemöller House
A very special birthday was celebrated at the Martin-Niemöller-Haus nursing home in Rüsselsheim on February 3rd: Marie Feller turned 101 years old. First County Councilor Adil Oyan personally delivered his congratulations, along with a bouquet of flowers and a certificate signed by District Administrator Thomas Will. Rüsselsheim's Mayor Patrick Burghardt also made a point of congratulating the centenarian in person.
The small celebration took place with fellow residents, caregivers, and family members. They toasted with sparkling wine and shared memories over coffee and cake.
A life full of events between Trebur and Rüsselsheim
Marie Feller was born in Trebur. She grew up there with a brother, a sister, and a twin sister, all of whom have since passed away. After her marriage, she moved with her husband to Bauschheim. She spent many years of her life in a small house, which was later extended by her children-in-law. Her daughter died at the young age of 42. Today, the family includes two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, aged eight months and two years.
Marie Feller has been living in the Martin-Niemöller-Haus in Rüsselsheim for seven years.
Active into old age
The woman celebrating her birthday remained active well into old age. She loved swimming – whether in an outdoor pool or a thermal spa – and enjoyed taking walks in Rüsselsheim. In her younger years, she regularly attended carnival events and even gave satirical speeches. Singing, dancing, and gymnastics were also among her passions.
Travel also played a major role in her life. She visited Egypt, Turkey, and Spain, among other places, took cruises to Greece and Italy, and frequently traveled to Switzerland.
To keep her mind sharp, she regularly read newspapers and solved crossword puzzles until recently.
Regular visits and many memories
The family visits Marie Feller once a week. On her special day, they shared numerous stories, sang together, and reminisced about times gone by – a celebration that showed how much joy in life is possible even at 101 years old.
