The Federal Ministry of Finance honors World Heritage site with new postage stamp
The Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt will be honored with a special postage stamp to mark its 125th anniversary. As the city of Darmstadt announced, the Federal Ministry of Finance will issue the stamp on May 7, 2026 .
Remembering the artists' colony of 1901
The special stamp commemorates the first exhibition of the Darmstadt Artists' Colony in 1901 , thus honoring one of the most important sites of early modernism. The Mathildenhöhe is considered a unique ensemble of architecture, art, and landscaped grounds and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2021.
The stamp was designed by Luzia Hein. It will be available from May 7th at branches of Deutsche Post and online.
International appeal of the World Heritage Site
Mayor and Head of Cultural Affairs Hanno Benz emphasizes the significance of the award: The Mathildenhöhe represents the dawn of modernity and exceptional artistic ideas. The special stamp makes the World Heritage Site visible far beyond the city limits.
Anniversary year with numerous events
The 125th anniversary of Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt will be celebrated in 2026 with an extensive program. A highlight will be the World Heritage Festival on June 6th and 7th , during which the exhibition "A Step Ahead" will also be opened.
